Hey guys I've been changing the carbon in my fluval since I've had it. Though recently I've been told by my LFS this is pointless as it does nothing after a few days. Any advice on this matter would be appreciated.

Carbon is really only needed for a few things. It's good at removing medications, smells, some forms of cloudiness, and is also good for helping with chemical warfare with corals. It will usually last from about 1 week to probably a month depending on how much you use and how good of a quality it is. That being said, 95% of the time you don't really need to use it.

Ok thanks what's the best thing to replace the carbon with then, put more bio rings in etc?

If you want to that's fine. A lot of people also like to use purigen for water clarifying purposes. Or you could really just ignore it.

Cheers I'll get some more bios for the nice like bacteria to live :)
