curing your own live rock

I have a question about curing your own live rock.

1. When you buy it to cure yourself it the rock dry and you add to what every tub or tank and then it will start to live?
or

2. you buy it wet and your just curing so the rock will Grow more?

I want to cure my rock as my tank cycles does this invole 1 or 2

thanks

jeff

the rock you get will be damp

when you get uncured rock, it means that it has organisms on it that are dead or dying and need to decay so it doesnt pollute your tank. when curing lr, put it in a large container with very good water flow and skimmer. test for ammonia and nitrite and do water changes to keep the levels low so other organisms have a chance to survive.

heres an article for you to look at for moe info

Put the damp live rock in your new tank and let it cure in there. That will do two things - cure your rock and cycle your tank. When the rock is cured, your tank is cycled and you can add fish and corals.
