Hey all, Ive been lurking here for a bit but now I have some questions.

I have a 29gal tank that Im going to use as a FOWLR tank. I plan on using live sand as well as live fiji rock.

Lighting: Current Satellite 65w with the 10,000K/Actinic bulb.

Protein Skimmer: AquaC Remora with Maxi-jet 1200 pump

Heater: Visitherm Stealth 150w

Powerhead: Hagen model 30

My question is about filtration. I have a brand new in the box Eheim 2213 I was going to use on the tank when I was going to use it as a freshwater setup. In my reading I have come across that canisters may not be the best as they might be over kill on a FOWLR tank.

So would I be better off returning the 2213 for a power filter just to handle mechanical filtration or should I stick with it?

Thanks
Kyle

ps: nice forums

If you are going to do live rock and live sand, get about 45lbs of rock and two maxijet powerheads and use the rock as your filter. If you do decide to use the eheim, you could remove the filter media and replace it with liverock rubble. I know nothing about canister filters but have heard of others doing this.
