I am going to convert my 55 fresh to a saltwater tank. I am going to get live sand and rock but have some questions. I only want fish

Will my filter (up to 90g) be enough.
Do I need power heads, sumps, or skimmers.
What lighting is needed

For 55 gallon sump is optional. I don't use one on mine. You need power heads probably 2 at each end of tank pointing to middle to create the current. Protein skimmer will help. I found a used one at LFS reef octopus BH1000 for like $125.

Also becareful, this hobby gets really addicting and you may want corals down the road, I would prepare for long term if possible. I started mine in November and I'm already looking for a bigger tank and wanting corals.

I'd skip the 'live' part when it comes to the sand. Waste of money IMO, dry is cheaper.

Second the advice on the powerheads (I've got two in my 60) and wanted to mention I have a Reef Octopus skimmer and I would definitely recommend the brand.
