OK, after compiling all my previous posts and research i have come to this conclusion on lights for my FOWLR, please tell me what you think.

2 T-12 fixtures (48")

2 actinic blue coralife bulbs (40W)

1 10,000k bulb (40W)

1 coralife trichomatic (40W)

My tank is going to be a 55g, FOWLR.

THANKS!!! any suggestions would be appreciated!

Not sure how much you'll like the tri chromatic bulb, it's gonna be pretty yellow, personally I'd go with 2 X 10Ks and the 2 actinics, but it's personal preferance. Sounds like you'll have enough light ;)

I too am in the process of setting up a 55 gal fowlr tank. It's been running for almost 3 months, and so far the coralline algae on the LR is growing strong, but I am interested in upgrading the lighting to keep it that way. However, I don't have a lot of room above the tank to add a large hood. All I have on the tank now is the single 48" florescent and plastic hood that comes standard on most tanks from the lfs. Is there a way to upgrade to a set up similar to the one mentioned above that wont take up more vertical space?
