So bought my first hydrometer awhile back and left it out and read that gives you false readings.

Bought another one. Let it sit in tank for a day to calibrate it

Started adding salt and it got to where I needed it to almost be. Bout a scoop every hr was how I for it

Left for a bit and when and came back it had fell off the glass it was suctioned to. And now the needle just lays at the bottom.

So what is the best hydrometer for checking salt water salinity? One I got is oceanic one

Refractometer, this optical device provides a direct reading of specific gravity and salinity in water. Will automatically compensate for temperature.

I've not seen them at LFS. Can find them on amazon, eBay, marinedepot.com, Bulkreefsupply.com just to name a few sites.
