Could I just go out to walmart, get a few small LEDS and use them as a nightlight in my fowlr? I really want a nightlight but there expensive and I want to see if I can do it myself.

Yes definitely. Moon lights are purely aesthetic as far as the lighting value in your tank. Just remember, as always, safety first when mixing electricity with water especially with DIY projects.
