Light on bio-balls?

I have a wet-dry filter with about 4-5 gallons of bio-balls(which in time will switch to LR)! Does my wet dry filter need light? or can it be in a container that lets no light in(in which I have). Thanks for any info!

No light on the bio balls. You don't want any algae growing on them.
