I'm probably going to be setting up a second tank to try and clear my main tank of ick, have heard this may be the only way is to let the tank go thru its life cycle of no host fish. Its been suggested to go fishless and let it cycle, drastic but I'm tired of fighting off the **** pests. My question is, what's the best way to set up the new tank? Best way to cycle the water?

Actually there is some thing 100% free and works better. Take a sponge from your main tank and put it in the quarantine tank. The bacteria live on the sponge and will breed more when the ammo/trite increase. You can do this with anything that is seeded (sponge, rock, bio media etc). Hth

I agree with cichlidlover, him and I both use smart start. It's a quick way to start cycling your tank.
