Everything was fine up to that point. I think you should return the tang
ASAP. They do not fair well in smaller tanks (should be more than 48"/75
gal) and would most certainly not survive long in a 30
gal.
How many more fish can I put in this tank without having to worry about over stocking it?
It would really depend on the types of fish you get and if the tank is to be
FOWLR or reef. You should stick to ones that stay relatively small (>2") to allow a few more choices. Especially once the tang is returned.
How old is the tank?
should I get some sort of clean up crew? I heard I could probably get away with up to 6 fish
A clean up crew is always a good idea but in smaller tanks, I think you would fair better with a mix of snails such as nerite, nassarius and cerith. A bumblebee snail or two would also add some color and interest.
I would not suggest 6 fish without knowing more about what you want. A good place to look is
Live Aquaria. They give pics and brief descriptions of care, aggression as well as
max adult sizes.
I would also suggest adding only one fish at a time, properly
quarantined and then wait a few weeks to see if you even want/need another or if it will possibley "stretch" the bio load.
Cheers
