I have about 85# of live rock in my 46gallon with 2 hydor koralia 2's and a mag7 return pump from the sump no other filter at all. Actually the sump is a refugium as well and kinda acts like a filter the chaeto absorbs whatever the live rocks don't As of now I only have 1clownfish 1blue devil damsel and 1 3-stripe damsel. Nitrates are below 2ppm. The clownfish I added last and the 3-stipe fought it for about 4days now they leave each other alone. I like damsels because they don't get very big in Saltwater its hard to keep most fish in anything under 75gallons. The length of 48" verses 36" makes a huge difference.

You can keep your canister filter for added flow and a place to house chemical media if you want until you get a sump setup then there will be no need.

I have an aqua-medic Turboflotor 1000 multi. definately worth the $200 it pulls lots of waste from the water.
