Welcome to AA :D

The brown algae is normal for new tanks and will eventually die out or a couple of hermits/snails can knock it out in days.

How did you cycle your tank?

The nitrates are a problem also. I would switch to weekly PWC`s till you get them under control. Also you need to feed every other day IMO.

i will start to do more pwc. i feed the fish everyother day. i`m getting ready to get the protein skimmer but was wondering if i should get the cleanup crew first there will be about a 2 week diff between getting the 2
thanks
