Hello, I have a 30gal. FOWLR, but now I'm planning to buy a 55gal. for saltwater and reef. Wish I could get a bigger one but can't afford it. Anyway, how many pounds of live sand, or coral and live rock would you guys recommend for this tanK? Plus how much lighting? What kind of filter? Thanks for any advice you guys can give me. Wish me luck.

My 55 is 5 months old. For sand, use enough to get at least a 4 inch sandbed, I used around 120 lbs. As for LR, I would use at least 1 lb per gallon. If you use a DSB and enough LR, you won't need a filter, maybe just a protein skimmer. I haven't got lights for mine yet, but I plan on getting a custom sea life power compact 4x65 watts. That comes out to 4.7 watts per gallon. I have 2 maxi-jet 1200's in each corner. The only other thing in my tank is the heater. No other filtration, until I have enough loot for a Protein skimmer. Good Luck!
