ph levels

What is a good ph level? I have never really ever monitored mt ph. I had a fish die a week ago and this is the only reading that is off it is 8.8, the ph kit said 8.4 is normal. I do know from reading different threads that it is usually better not to mess with your ph cause a crash is really bad

PH should be 8.2 - 8.4 Mine stays around 8.2. Good O2 exchange will help keep your PH stable. What time of the day did you test your PH?

yea, I just read that the time of day effects your readings. It was later in the afternoon. Everything I have read so far is about levels being to low. I guess I should not mess with mine. What causes high readings. I have lots of water movement. I could add an aerator.
