Picking Your Own Live Rock
I was wondering if this could be done in FL. I thought about driving down there and giving it a try. Has anyone done this? Know of any good areas.

You can't! Live rock is protected and illegal to harvest without a license.
BUT you can come down to Tampa and visit Tampa Bay Saltwater and pick all your rocks by hand .... right out of the TBS holding tanks!

Where is the Tampa Bay Saltwater ??? Tampa's only 40 mins. from here...
MAny years ago I went to Sebastian inlet and collected some LR for my 40g.. had it for many years and it did well...as said though it is illegal so be carefull.. Also you might not want to bring toys like boats, jet ski's etc because I think they will seize them if caught (not real sure on that one though...) I never did destroy any reefs during collecting...only gathered smaller and mid size pieces that were on there own... The Keys are also a good place for some better quality rocks.... Anyone know how to go about getting a license? wouldnt mind doing my 245g with some free LR... |

This issue of the newsletter, found at:
http://www.aquariumadvice.com/newsle...e_browse&id=51 contains a feature article on the topic you were asking about. Toward the bottom is a statement that collecting liverock is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.. |
