Puffer's face sucked into filter

So I was out of the house for a couple hours this afternoon, and upon arriving home, saw my dogface puffer sucked up into the filter tube. Poor guy was puffed up to avoid being completely sucked in. He seems stressed and face is puffy (odd description I know for a puffer to be puffy, but accurately describes it). Also, it's gills are red and more open than usual... Assuming water was flowing through him in reverse??? Hoping he makes it after this awful experience. I'll post a pic of him soon.
 
Some how the filter had the inlet knocked off. Here are some pics...

Aww... Poor guy!!! I hope he does alright & heals. I suppose if he continues to & is able to eat the next couple of days, he should be ok in the long run. Good luck!
 
Yeah if he's eating then he's doing good, that's a good sign!
