Question about curing live rock

Hello All,

Hi guys. About 6 weeks ago, I got this great Idea to buy some more live rock. I checked the local fish stores and there wasn't a really good selection. So I ordered some online. It came pretty quickly. I immediately cleaned it off a bit in a new bucket with salt water in it. I then put each piece into a new rubbermaid container with saltwater and a jet in there. I have done 100% water changes every 5 to 7 days. I checked the water today and got 0 ammonia,0 Nitrite, but 40ppm nitrate. Would you do another water change and wait till everything gets to a 0. THanks for any information.

Once the ammonia and nitrite are zero it means the cycling is complete. The nitrates won't decrease without anaerobic bacteria which generally live in a DSB.

You can do another water change if you'd like to be 100% sure, but it sounds to me like your rock is ready to be added to the main tank.

My wife and I were happy for twenty years. Then we met.

I agree with Atari...the rock is ready.
