Refugium for my 55??

I have been reading about refugiums recently and I was wondering how effective or needed they are... If they are; what size is best for a 55?

I think that they are a great addition to a tank. I think a 20 will fit under you tank wont it. They are good for lowering excess nutrients and adding water volume

I've been curious about them recently as well, but my tank stand doesn't really have room to add anything underneath.

I have plenty of room, but doing a sump setup in addition to my canister and HOT protein skimmer seems a bit cluttered. I should have built everything into the same system.
