I am really considering replacing my substrate. What are the steps I should take to replace the cc with silica as well as the good and bad when doing this. I have a 75g with 6-line wrasse 10 hermits, 2 chromis, cleaner shrimp, and lawnmower blenny.

Personally, I would find a non silica based sand for a saltwater set-up. Silica-based sands are generally believed to be responsible for long and extensive diatom blooms, as silica is the base substance from which they build their shells.

I would look into aragonite sand rather than silica-based sand.
