Sand Cleaning question

I do monthly water changes on my 55 gal saltwater tank every month. I heard that the sand needs to be left alone. Is this true? Or is it a matter of preference?

You can vacuum the sand but you dont have to. If you have a hood amount of flow it should be clean. If you do vacuum the sand only do parts at a time

How deep is your sand bed?

I stirred mine recently and my corals have all shrivelled up since. I think it depends on the death of the sand bed as if deep it needs to be left alone

About 4 inches in both display and sump

Maybe vacuum the top inch but I'd leave the rest alone.
