sorry if this is a dumb question, but google didn't help me much.
Are all sea stars only capable of living in reef tanks or can they thrive in a FOWLR tank?

They will make it in a FOWLR tank provided the fish that are in there wont attack them.

thanks. is it usually aggressive fish that would attack or fish that nip at corals? or both?

Usually fish taht are agressive. I ordered part of a CUC for my tank and added a star not knowing and it got ripped in half.
