I was wondering... is silica based sand okay for saltwater aquariums? I know it doesn't have a buffering ability like argonite, but doesn't the salt you put in the water already have the right pH? So technically silica sand should be okay?

I dont know I just got some Aragonmax from DRSfostersmith so far it looks ok.

Silica is a highly debated topic. Will it or will it not add silicates to your system?

One thing that it will NOT do, though, is act as a pH buffer. FOr that reason alone I decided to go with aragonite.

can you find argonite sand at home depot or menards??? I really don't want to buy 125lbs of argonite sand at pet store prices!
