I wonder if stores just raise live rocks in tanks with some fish and sell it back to people?

If they did it would be cured LR. It would not bother me if they did. Let them have all the nasties that come with the LR like bad worms and bad crabs. Just give me the cured LR.

Good news then, Toms Tropicals here in maryland does it that way. but they sell it at 6.50 a pound.

Heh. I picked up "Texas Holy Rock" and cured it myself. They're all exceedingly smothered in purple and the fish love the intricate rockwork. Just scrubbed it clean in a two-stage bath of salt-water (scrub, 15 day soak, scrub, 15 day soak in moving water). Added one rock from an established tank to spawn the purple algae. $500 on rock.. man people a crazy! (granted I don't get any surprises, but, that can lean both ways!!)
