Water flow

How important is water flow in a fish only system. I have a 120 gal tall tank that is 48 inches wide.

Flow is important as it gets detrius (fish poo ect) up into the water colum so the filtration can pull it out and less chance of cyno ect

I assume in a fish only it wouldn't matter as much but like Marty said unless you want to look at algae from trapped detritus, good flow is a nice idea.
