To circulate the water so no detritus settles and all gets picked up by filtration. Unless filter circulation is enough.

If your filter is not already circulating the water 10x per hour, then go ahead and get more circulation. You'll end up doing weekly water changes anyways, so you will either have to siphon it out or get them out of your filter. IMO its just unnecessary cost, but a powerhead has many uses other than circulating water. I bought one for its versatility.

Someone earlier said i'd need one so i figured i need it for flow. my filter is an aqueon 10

Oh ok lol you might be better off with a powerhead.

I dont know about other powerheads, but i got an aquaclear powerhead. It can have its flow adjusted, so i'd recommend buying a big strong model and minimize the flow. Great powerhead so far.

I would recommend 2 koralia powerheads. One for each side. I had 2 750's in my 55g and have a 1400 and a 950 in my 90g fowlr now.
