What is this and how to clean it.

So my tank was in need of some serious mantiance. Been working on it. But have this on my LR and it's a pain.



I'm thinking about just pulling a rock out and rinsing it off with water in sink then putting right back in. I'm sure that's a bad idea tho so someone tell me it is before I do it.

But gonna go ahead and pull power head and other items out and do that to them.

That's green hair algae and scrubbing it under tap water is a bad idea. That will kill a good amount of your beneficial bacteria on the rock and will not defeat the cause of the algae. You can scrub it in a bucket of tank water but unless you solve the cause it will come back. What are your phosphates at?
