What is this on my fish..?

Came home from a small trip.. I recently quarantine all my fish for a ick outbreak but came home to me trigger looking like this.. Click image for larger version

That looks like more than exposure to air kind of dead. That looks like a burn and a nasty one too. Is there a heater in that tank he could have burned himself on? Thats my first thought. Velvet is the second. It kinda makes the skin peel away.

how do fish die from this? is it something in my water? i have no air pump in my tank..

well... yes a heater is in your water if it's in your display

So there was nothing to bring fresh oxygen into the tank ontop of this?

you came home from a small trip, how long were you gone and was is it dead when you got home?
Is it even dead?
What else is in the tank?
The damage could be post-mortem.
I also assume you found him in the tank and not out of it so no death from exposure to air.


Really need more info to provide any reasonable help.

on top of what?
the OP has provided no info other than a pic of a dead trigger and that they don't have an air pump.
for all we know they could have a setup that rivals SeaWorld or they could be keeping them in an old 5 gallon Sparkletts bottle, we simply don't know.
