When making your own LR

Ive been readin up for a few days on how to make your own rock and then curing it to be LR. But the only thingI cant seem to find is...what to I put in the tank/bucket with the rock that will make it grow the bacteria (or...whatever...) needed? I assume that there should be no water movement?

Id rather spend 3 weeks making 100lbs of LR then spend $450...

Check the articles section for info on fishless cycle. Same thing. You do need current, heat and correct salinity. Be careful what you put in the rock. You need a certain type of concrete, and sand.

Yea I was reading I should put crushed coral in the mix as well?

Should I used water taken out of my tank to accellerate the process?

No will do nothing for you. Below is the article mentioned above. Is this for a new or existing tank? I have not read up on it recently but I think it has to cure a long time.

Ive read that article, thats how I cycled my small tank. I believe the curing time is 3-4 weeks which is no problem. I just need a lot of LR for my 60g as well as my 40g sump.

I read that concrete will leech bad stuff into your water for up to a year.
