Crypt. in the maint tank will eventually die out as there would be no beneficial host for them. I agree with the refractometer and I would start off with daily/every other day 25% water changes for the first week just to make sure your firefish doesn't overly stress. Make sure there is eggcrate over the tank and indirect lighting (natural ambiance) should suffice.

Hypo on the QT, not on the tank. As innovator said, devoid of a host in the tank the ich will die after ..they say 6 weeks, but I like to go 8 to play it safe. Reading the link I gave you very carefully is crucial to the success of hyposalinity. Especially when bringing the SG. back up, take your time.
