Yellow tang, white stripes on each side..

When I turned on the lights this morning I noticed two white stripes on my yellow tang on each side of his body in exact same spot I turned it on Blue light only to see if there was any Salt Like ick marks and nothing just the two white stripes?

perfectly normal. my purple tang develpps the same blotch every time i turn the lights on in the am

don't know if its true but I was told those are for defense against other fish.someone told me they can make them come out and use them like a knife.dont know if that's true though

My yellow tang has them too. Totally normal.

I believe your thinking about the scalpel at the base of their tails. Hence the name surgeonfish
