48" 130w PC's coming!

48" 130 watt [acronym:69e46324fb="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:69e46324fb] bulbs should be available next month sometime from Currents. Captive Raised Corals will have these bulbs at reasonable prices as soon as they are available.

Just the bulbs for now. I'm sure a retro kit will eventually be available. It would be easy to put together the stuff to run them though. A 4x32 ballast would run one with no problem.

I have 4pc's that are 48" long. Will I be able to replace then with these new bulbs?

If so that will equal 520w of light right?

What kind of corals will I be able to keep then?

Also, how do you calculate the watts per gallon?

Actually...no. What you have, I'm pretty sure, is either a 4x55w or 4x65w setup. Your ballasts will not run 4x130w. You could rewire the ballasts to run two of the 130w bulbs. In order to run 4x130w, you'd have to buy either two of the 4x32 ballasts or one of the [acronym:6f2d1587fa="Very high output fluorescent"]VHO[/acronym:6f2d1587fa] ballasts that will handle a 260w load.

If you added the ballasts and rewired everything, that would be 520w.

You might be able to keep some of the [acronym:6f2d1587fa="Small Polyped Stoney"]SPS[/acronym:6f2d1587fa] that have lower light requirements as long as they were in the upper half of the tank. I wouldn't expect them to really color up under these lights though.
