Hi everyone. I have a question about how much the ammonia levels should come down with major water changes. I have done two 75 percent changes yesterday, now 50 per cent change this morning and ammonia is still 4.0. Yesterday is was 8.0 so it is better, but still way too high. I also had a bacteria bloom start 3 days ago.

2 75% changes and a 50% should drop your levels by about 90-95%. To make the math easy 100ppm ammonia, the first 75% change should drop you to 25ppm the second to about 6-7ppm and the the 50 would drop it to 3ish. That’s assuming no ammonia added from source water or anything in the tank

Great. Thank you. I'll do another 50 tomorrow. I have a tropical tank. Is it best not to feed anything until it's in normal range again.
