Hello, i'm dexter, i'm hopefully soon to be starting a 30 or 40 gallon freshwater aquarium, looking for tips. i'm mostly looking for advice on invertebrates, i want to keep crabs but am having trouble finding peaceful freshwater crabs

Thai micro crabs! They're not aggressive but they're tiny and might get lost in a larger tank 
Have you considered panther crab? They're fairly peaceful, will only get annoyed at bottom dwellers and shrimp if they get too close. They get up to 5" total, body and claws. That'd be dandy in a planted 40 breeder.
