My name is Dave. And I am an alcoholic.
No wait! Wrong AA!! Sorry!
I am a land surveyor here in Ohio and I just recently decided to take the plunge into owning and maintaining
At present, I only have the tank. A 55 gal
(long) that I caught on sale and couldn't afford to pass up. Otherwise, I may not have gotten it for a couple more months as I am trying to learn as much as I can prior to putting fish in harms way. Trust me. Had I not decided to research it a bit, my first tank of fish wouldn't have just been in harms way. Harm would have ran em over like a mac truck. Prior to research I would probably have filled the tank and tossed em in.
Now, after reading up in books and on the web, I am starting to get a little bit better grasp on what I need to do to care for these little creatures and give them the best life possible (short of the suppliers leaving them in the wild). I know I have a great deal to learn and hope that I can pick up some of that knowledge here, from folks that have experience in the hobby/lifestyle.
I have been a member of a few other forums for a few weeks now. I have gotten some great advice from folks at those. However, this forum seems to be more active than the others. And on top of that, from the posts that I have read here, the members know how to help a person without belittling them in the process. Something that I have seen on the others.
My goal is to have a nicely stocked aquarium with plants (live, eventually) that is pleasing to the eyes as well as the ears. I have not decided on any particular type of fish yet or even what plants. I have a vision in my head what I would like it to look like, but I will not be unhappy if it doesn't turn out perfectly. I guess that is one thing that appeals to me about the hobby. If you don't like something, you can usually change it without too much trouble.
OK, I will shut up now.
Thanks to everyone that makes this place seem to be one of, if not the, best forums on the web. I look forward to reading your posts and replies to my questions as well.
PS: Don't want to give the wrong impression. It takes me about a year to consume enough alcohol to equal a 6 pack.
