Just like to say Hello and introduce myself. My name is Dave and I live in the UK just North of London in the city of St. Albans, so excuse me if I post on here and my language doesn't quite make sense. I have recently started with Marine after years with tropicals and i'm hoping that from joining I will be able to gain and more importantly share any information I have. My set up at the moment is as follows:
Aquaone 900 system with the Marisys 240 filtration system

More importantly and which never normally gets mentioned in forums and I have used to trip up livestock suppliers is the dimensions of my tank, I can elaborate on this as to why when buying fish it is important to say how long, wide and deep your tank is. For example I would really love a powder blue tang, but know that they get stressed if the tank isn't big enough. Some livestock suppliers never ask the dimensions as when you think about it you could have a 1000 litre tank that is 10cmx10cm but is 100 metres tall! It's never going to happen but unless the fish can swim freely (and mine can) then there is no point in putting a fish through any un necessary suffering. My Powder blue can wait till I get a bigger tank and I will!!
But at the moment, the dimensions are:
90cmx40cmx48.8cm which if you do the math is equivalent to 176,000 cm cubed or 176 litres.
In the tank are the following:
2 Cleaner shrimp
2 Fire shrimp
4 Turbo snails
1 bumble bee snail (came with a piece of live rock or at least a snail that has taken a bumble bee crab shell)
4 hermit crabs
1 Sand sifting starfish
A mated pair of Gold Stripe Maroon clowns (Crazy)
1 Baby Regal tang (Can see why they picked it for finding nemo)
1 Juvenile Yellow tang (Just as crazy as the Regal)
1 Pink Spotted scooter (Excellent fish)
1 Purple fire fish (Just sits and looks pretty)
additionally and this is where I know I may have already gone wrong, but took the advice of a Live stock supplier and this wasn't done hastily, is a Malu anemone and a feather star fish. I only say a mistake re the Malu as to try and get him settled has been a nightmare and have had to take drastic action by putting him where I want him so he can't wander while the clowns acclimatise themselves to his stings as they have hassled him no end.
Four pieces of coral, 1 feather duster and around 50lbs of rock (which increases weekly!), both live and dead (the dead is already getting colonised)
A bed of coral and fine sand to help the filtration.
So far everything is very good, level wise and I do my checks every day! and i've found that the sump of my filtration system is capable of supporting 4kg's (8.8lbs) of fish of which i'm no where near and think that the next addition in time will be a Mandarin when the copepod level builds up.
My crew get fed a combination of live food (copepods), frozen (mysis, bloodworm, mussel, shrimp etc) a small piece daily and I put in a piece of seaweed for the tangs three times a week and I add a coral supplement of around 6 drops per day.
