So I've never had anything but beta fish as a fish pet but decided that I wanted a salt water tank. I just started with the 6 gallon fluval edge. I work at petco and the aquatics specialist has been advising me on what to do. But I have decided to join this site as a second source of information!

Welcome aboard. The first thing people on this site will tell you is that a 30 gallon or larger is recommend for your first SW system. It's that when bad things happen they happen faster in a smaller tank. If you haven't already I highly recommend a SW test kit to monitor your quality and do cycle your system before stocking. Here's a good site for reference http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=15+2124.
Good luck.

Ya I have my water tested twice a week and change about half a gallon once a week. So far my water has been perfect and it's on the second week.
