Hi Everybody.

I'm new to fishkeeping and have tried to follow all the advice from Aquatic shops and the internet. Result? Mayhem in the tank!!

I have 2 Pearl Gourami ( male & female) , 4 platies ( 3 males, 1 female?) and 3 male guppies.

The Pearls spend most of the day at the top of the tank at opposite corners hidden by the lid.

The guppies are like a formation team rushing all over the tank occasionally trying to interfere with the platies .

The platies are mainly loners. I think they have been traumatised by the arrival of the guppies. One is lifeless, often sinks to the bottom, floats vertically and I think I need to euthanise it? ( it's been like this for 10 days) The others seem to have a go at each other, from time to time. One platy has taken to nipping a Pearl near the rearquarters.

So you can see, this is not a happy tank and I feel responsible for the mismatch of fish. I bought the platies first on advice as they would prepare the new tank for other fish.

I love the Pearls but have to decide what to do next?

Keep the Pearls and return the guppies and platies
Return the Pearls and get some Honey Gourami

Most important question....

Do I euthanise the poor platy? I'm worried it may affect the tank

Sorry if this is a bit too much for a first post but it is worrying me very much and thanks for any advice..

Hi from north London. The euthanasia is a tough one and really comes down to what you think you should do... If you have a spare tank you could remove the fish and try and treat for possible illness. Where did you buy your fish from?

Hi Wilkes. I bought the fish at an aquatic specialist store, Waterworld, Enfield.

The guys are very helpful and I spend quite a long time watching the fish in the tanks before choosing each fish individually. All the tanks hold healthy looking fish, and I see the tanks being cleaned etc. so I tend to feel safe buying from them.
