cedars77 hears surf in the shell
Red face Hi! I'm a newbie in every sense of the word!

I am BRAND new to the world of fish - in fact, I am looking for advice about everything from the proper aquarium to get to the kind of fish to put in it. All I know right now is that I want a small, compact aquarium (space constrictions) that will act as a stress reducer. Other than that, I can only add that I love watching colorful fish and interesting "tank mates" that I have seen in some aquariums.

Any help anyone can offer me will be GREATLY appreciated.

Pat

Hello and Welcome to Aquarium Advice
You came to the right place for information, knowledge and also a great place to relax and make friends. The people here helped me out immeasurably in familiarizing me with the do's and don'ts of fish keeping and I'm sure they will help you too.

Welcome to AA!

I'd recommend measuring the space that you can fit an aquarium into and then purchasing the largest aquarium that you can fit into that space. Larger aquariums are more stable which makes them easier to maintain.

Welcome to AA I completly agree with Joy also let us know what kind of fish that you maybe interested in keeping not all fish are right for any size tank.

Glad to see you are doing your research first instead of jumping in head first and then when you have a problem come looking for help.

Be VERY thankful that you started doing research prior to getting your tank! There is a great deal more to aquaria than most people realize. Take your time, and ask tons of questions. There are experts here on just about every subject related to aquaria.

There are lots of things to think about when setting up a new tank. Salt water (SW) or fresh water (FW)? Since you're really new to all this, I suggest FW, since SW is a lot more technical. Did you want real or fake plants? Look at the gallery section of the site for pictures of other members' tanks for ideas. Take a look at the link in my signature for instructions on setting up your new tank. Good luck, and be sure too keep us updated with your progress. You came to the right place for assistance.
