hello folks, i am new in town, and i am here to keep current on my aquarium advice and get new ideas about stocking the tank and fr future endeavours
i currently have 2 tanks in operation, and plan on adding a 75 Galloin in the next month or so. I am pretty new to fish keeping, so we're "practising" if you will with the beginner fish, before we venture into the "harder" fish.
Tank 1 is the new baby
120 gallon, freshwater and currently understocked.
we have a grand total of 8 fish (!) all mollies. i keep them at a ratio of 1 male to 3 female, and we have silver mollies and creamsicle lyretails right now.
it' s artificially planted, and has a driftwood log. the picture shown is a little cloudy from a water treatment, we are just waiting to put the carbon in to clarify the water a little. I have heard from 2 camps about this, one says carbon is a waste of time and money, one says it would be fishie murder to not use it.. any POV's from you guys?
Tank 2 is a well established 55 gallon, running for about a year now. Artificially planted after a horror couple of months with live plants.. you know, snails, nitrites and all sorts of ammonia/ nitrate imbalances... we went back to artificial for the sake of the fish. It has a petsmart ornament driftwood log
This tank is holding until the 120 is a little more established, and we'll start transferring more fish. It houses 2 baby plecostimus 2 in, 1 flame gourami, 4 cherry barb, 8 zebra danio, 2 gold bar platy, 1 clown loach (who singlehandedly solved the snail issues), 2 algae eaters, and 5 redwag platy (all bred here), oh, and 2 ghost cafish
we have a kick butt filter setup, marineland with a bio wheel.
I am excited for the next step of the 75, but since we'll be moving in about a month, we're going to hold off for now. We've turned into a wierdo couple by the way, watching the aquariums for extended period of times, enjoying the emerging personalities of the fish. We also drove for an hour a few months ago and paid too much money for our little clown loach because our local store wasn't stocking them and the nearest one was goofy looking
anyway, great to be here, and i will be stalking all the forums for ideas and advice.
