Have to say I feel like I a peeping tom! I have just read this entire thread and felt like I was reading a book and couldn't wait to turn the page! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us here at the forum. I am sure there are many aquarium advisors who are jealous of your fabulous gift (like me). Fun to watch you and the advisor talk back and forth about how to set up this tank. What a great gift you received but also consider the gift you are giving your preschoolers. You are creating the aquarium advisor visitors of the future. What a good teacher you must be! Good Luck!

You don't wanna add fishies until your cycle is completely done....adding them now will result in an ammonia spike and won't end well for the fishies. And thank you for the compliment I 100% agree that she is going above and beyond for the students. This is an absolutely amazing and addictive hobby, but is very confusing and tough at times. Just trying to help

yes, thank you to clynnking for the great compliment....I really do give my all for the kids....but to be honest the fish are for ME, it's just a side benefit that by sharing this experience with the kids we are ALL learning together! All of my kids from 3 years old to 19 years old were all cheering when the (test) water in the test tubes turned pretty colors, and I told them that that meant the "invisible good bugs were growing" and that meant we should be able to move our fish soon....I'm hoping for Monday...we ALL are!

And thank you to HomeDog (whom I miss....I wonder where she/he has been lately?) and Huma Huma for their endless patience with me. I really want to do this one right, and set a good example for my kids in responsible fish ownership. But people assume that because I work with children that I have patience...and I'm telling you, I do NOT! I want to move my fish NOOOWWWWW!!!!!

Thank you all again! Now I am off for yet another endless round of water testing and PWC's....

I really would hold off on the pwc's as much as possible, its not needed untill your tank finishes cycling and just before you're ready to move your fish in the testing I'd do 2 times a day unless something drastic happens. Even adding fish is a slow and tidious process if you add too many or too fast, it'll spike the system.

Ok, no PWC on the cycling tank for now. But my ten gallon tank needs a PWC. Too many fish in that 10 gallon tank waiting for the cycling tank.

Yeah I'd do a daily pwc on the 10g to keep the levels in check

Hoping you can add your fish to the new tank on Monday. Patience is the name of the game tho. May as well start on safe waters for your fish awaiting new larger digs! No sense moving into unsafe living quarters! Stress of moving is bad enough on the poor things- don't need to be sick too! I'll be checking back to see if you update us on your progress! FUN!

Why would my No3 go DOWN if I didn't do a water change?

Am - .5
No2 - 2ppm
No3 - 10ppm

There's a couple different reasons, there is an anerobic stage that comes after the nitrate stage.it converts trates into nitrogen, which then escape through surface disturbance. That's just one way though, looking good I'd dose back up to 4 ppm ad let it go
