A 75 gal saltwater aquarium came my way this year through some friends. Still learning about the whole reefkeeping process and equipment possibilities. Done pretty good so far except for a few nitrate problems.Lost a few corals in the process. Nitrate problem still not quite resolved yet. Just set up a sump in the basement directly under tank on main floor. Purchased new skimmer and pump. I would like to know if I need to do water changes even though I am adding about 1/2 to 3/4 gal of distilled water daily to sump due to evaporation. (dont have a RO/DI unit yet).

Hello, Welcome to AA. Most will tell you that regular water changes are necessary. As you go along you will figure out what works for your tank as far as how much and how often.

PWC's are still necessary. 10%/week or 20% every other week will replace essential elements and help maintain a healthy tank.
