need advice

I am new to the fish business. Just started my first aquarium. It is 5 gallons and I have one male betta in it. Was wondering whether I can add a second fish, what kind could work? I was thinking of maybe adding a platy? or is the aquarium too small?

The betta is probably very happy without company of any type. Really a 5 gallon is a perfect size for one betta.
