Finally feel settled in my new apt so I deicided to get a fish tank. This is going to be my first planted tank. Pretty exiciting!

You might want to remove the Abalone shell ??

It can raise PH and hardness of your tank water. IMHO

Would boiling It and letting it soak separately help at all? Thanks for tip btw

Nope. It dissolves over time. Boiling might just speed that up.

Besides, it looks odd in a FW tank. You could put it behind the tank ?

I decorate with wood and rocks and plants.

You can do whatever you want. Its your tank. Perhaps if you sealed it with silicone ??

Otherwise it WILL dissolve in FW. AFAIK
