New biocube 14 saltwater reef

I just got a new biocube 14 for Xmas. I plan on trying to do a saltwater reef. It's been up and running for a week. I have about 15 lbs of live rock and 1-2 inches of live sand. Everything running is stock, plus I have a biocube 240 power head. This morning I noticed a crusty brown stuff on the front part of the aquarium on the sand. Is this normal? If not, what should I do?

Is there anything else I truly need for this biocube? Skimmer? Another power head?

I'm very new to this hobby and I probably will need lots of help.

Thanx and have a happy new yrs day.

Welcome to the forum. Start a nice build thread in the saltwater section. You'll get all the answers there.

Good luck!
