Hey y’all!

Just doing my intro. I have been keeping aquariums since I was in high school in the 80’s but I’ve been away from them for the last decade or so.

But, I now have a 10 year old son who is interested in fish, plants and seeds, anything that grows or develops. So, I’ve been digging through my stash the last few months.

We recently set up a 40 gallon planted tetra tank. Nothing fancy of course, we actually built on the cheap. - Plastic rain gutter lights with compact fluorescent daylight bulbs, stand built from scrap lumber we got dumpster diving at a house they were building around the corner from my shop. Hooked up an old school Eheim canister filter we bought cheap off eBay, etc. But... we’re having fun and learning new stuff.

Here’s a few pics below.

I also collect the old school square Eheim professional series I and professional series II canister filters and rebuild and overhaul them just for fun.

Anyway looking forward to new things and I hope to be able to contribute to the board over the next few months.

Thanks in advance for all you do on here.

-Ron Eldridge

Looks like you haven't forgotten a thing! Great set up! And it's so awesome that you are able to teach him not only the hobby but how to reuse things! What a great family activity. I also took a 10 year break and just got back into the hobby 3 months ago because of my sons who are 5 and 6 (7 in 3 weeks) they absolutely love every aspect of this. Waking up in the morning and checking on everyone, feeding time, cleaning, set up, watching, all of it [emoji173] I love your tank. Welcome!

Oh yeah, I just bought a tank used yesterday and it came with one of these filters you're talking about. Are they any good? It's going in a 55 gallon with 3 Orandas soon to be 5 (im getting 2 telescope butterfly goldfish once its set up) thank you!

Thanks guys.

And yes those filters are my favorite canister filters. They have gotten a bad reputation because the seals and O rings can shrink a bit and cause leaks. But, the seals are cheap, like just a few cents and a few dollars online. They are easy to replace too.

Thanks again for the kind words.
