New Guy From Iowa
Hello... My name is Kerby and I live in Iowa... I've had a fish tank since I was 14, and that was 20 years ago... Recently I've come across a web site where people sell used stuff called "Craigslist" and the addiction has really taken off... From a 55 gallon for $35 and a couple of 30 gallons on a cool custom stand to add to the 55 gallon and 20 long I already had, I now have 5 tanks set up in our home... talk about an addiction. My kids think I've lost my mind...
I knew of "cycling" a tank but didn't know much about it... with all of your help in the last few months and the purchase of a test kit, I've had very few fish fatalities and learned to do partial water changes more often. Three tanks are community - one primarily angels, another has a bunch of stuff from cory cats, mollies, swards, black skirts, zebras, a pleco and a few snails. Currently, my 20L has the gold fish from our very small fish pond inside for the winter - they'll be back outside soon. My new favorite tank (one of the 30 gallons) has dwarf puffers, butterfly gobies, kuhli loaches...and that's about it. I want to learn more about growing live plants and other fish compatability. We have lots of cool pet stores in town so finding interesting fish is not always difficult. Thanks again for all the wonderful advice - this web forum has been a GREAT learning tool for me - you guys are great!!! Kerby |

Welcome to AA!
Check out our planted tank forum and while you are at it, why not post some pics of your tank and fish.

Thanks for the Welcome...
The first tank is the 55 gallon I've had in the living room for a while. The second is the new 55 gallon I purchased used for $35... I couldn't believe it - the guy only used it for a week while his bigger tank was being repaired, then he wanted to get rid of it... and the last two are my 30 gallon tanks I got about two weeks ago... The person used them up until the day I bought them, so were already cycled and seem healthy. I just rearranged and put more plants in.

kitchen tank
The tank didn't come with a stand, so I had to build one... This was a fun project. Don't worry, there's more supports beneath the tank than what the first pic shows... Seems to be holding 100's of pounds of water so far...
