Yes put in some plants. I always recommend plants. Take a look at my journal below for some good starter ones that do well with cichlids.

Here's some pics of my son's 40 gallon community tank which currently has an albino bristle nose pleco, black ghost knife, elephant nose, albino catfish, glass catfish, iridescent shark, tinfoil barb, and 2 bamboo fan shrimps.

I finally decided to add some plants to my 75 gallon cichlid tank. However, I did not use live plants because I: (1) don't know if they will survive since my substrate is crushed coral; (2) put African Rift salt in my tank to simulate the cichlids' natural environment; (3) do not want the plants to alter the pH of the water; and (4) know there is little or no maintenance involved with artificial plants. The kind I placed were the silk type ones so they look more realistic than plastic one.
