Hi,

I have a female guppy with a red mark on her body. It looks to be a sore with redness visible from her other side as well.

To answer questions:
1~ What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.).

Female guppy
Red mark that looks like an inflamed sore or injury. I saw a make guppy side up to her at the location of her sore, so I wondered she’s just been harassed by the boys. They never let up!

2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values.

I’m using API test kit so exact values are not available, but my best calculations are:
PH 7.4. It’s a constant battle to bring PH down
Ammonia between 0-0.25ppm
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 20ppm
Temperature 28.5C I know that’s warm, but it’s nearly summer and I don’t have a chiller to bring the temp down.

3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up?

37. Litres
I’ve had the tank about 2-3 months.

4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known.

Using a Marina slim filter S15 (HOB) and a small canister (don’t know what it is) as the tank is over populated but I’m setting up a 130L tank to move my fish into.

5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes?
12 guppies adult
10 neons approx 1”
2 coreys about 1-1.5”

6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time?
Saturday. I do weekly water changes of 25-30% (10+ litres each time). Additionally I clean a filter sponge between water changes.

7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them?

I acquired the tank and guppies 2-3 months ago then added the other fish and plants a week or two after that.

8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.?

I added some weeds a couple of weeks ago but otherwise nothing new.

9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently?

Tropical flakes, Aqua Magic granules, Xrreme Aquatic Foods Spirulina Crave Flake, API BottomFeeder shrimp pellets and occasionally some peas.

Thanks in advance for all your replies.

Looks like either someone is beating up on her or she got a cut from a decoration. Keep an eye on the other fish to make sure that it's not them. If it is you may have to remove her. Keep your water pristine and it should heal on it's own.
