Saltwater newbie

What up all. I have had freshwater tanks all my life and currently have a 60 g cichlid tank up and running. My 4 month old is in love with the tank and can't stop staring at the amazing fish. She has daddys good taste. So to give my lil one the enjoyment of having a tank of her own I just set up a 12 g nano in her room. I've been reading quite a bit but I am still very new at this and I am only 2 days into the cycling stage. Any good advise could help

Thanks all for the welcome and thanks for all the info on cycling. U save me a ton of time and frustration on trying to figure it out

So I decided to put some ammonia in my tank in order to check to see if my tank is cycled and I think I over did it. Right now my parameters are:
Ammonia 8.0+
Nitrite 2.0
Nitrate 20

Should I do a water change to bring the ammonia down or just let it run it's course? All responses are highly appreciated. Thanks. Sorry nano reef thread is acting up I think
