Recently started a 150 gallon African Cichlid tank. Love the fish but quickly learned that pet stores don't know much about anything and they all contradict each other. Some private fish stores aren't much help either. I've latched onto a couple local breeders that have been so helpful but still question some advice.

How many fish can safely be maintained in a 150? I am being told the 1" per gal rule doesn't apply to cichlids as they do best with crowds. I have been recommended to have 60 to 75. Thoughts on that? I have a great setup with powerful filtration.

Thanks for any advice - looking forward to becoming acquainted with you all! :)

Of course retailers are going to recommend you add tons of fish
but I'd say about two
dozen, why ? Cause 1: it will give cut down the bio load 2: everyone will have
their own space which will reduce agression 3: its gonna be hard to track the
health of 80 individual fish and finally : too many fish will create alot of
visual noise, when you gaze at your tank U want it to have a relaxing effect on
the viewer. just my opinion tho. : )
